"Fluorescent Dreams" is an exploration into the relationship between the artificial and the ethereal.
Can a profound beauty exist within a synthetic substance?
Working with mass-produced/plastic materials, I deconstructed each item until all traces of it's former identity were erased. Choosing to work specifically with neon hues I began to recreate new forms, allowing for a process of transmutation and an emergence of both otherworldliness and sensualism to occur.
It was with the rebuilding of these new forms that I began to decode their meaning. At a glance, these dreamlike sculptures reveal traces of Japanese culture, anime, science fiction and fantasy. Yet the artwork is not suggesting an escape from this world but rather putting forth the possibility of establishing a connection to all things material be they organic or synthetic.
